—Brooks (pronouns: he/him) Has been working in or involved with the Festival, Burn, and concert community since 2016. He started Safe Space Event Staffing LLC in 2023 to set a much-needed standard in Safety, Security, and Quality First-Aid/Medical care of participants at all different events and functions.
He has an eclectic skill set involving a background in Construction, Farming, and Security/Safety. He excels in the “critical decision-making process” and has current certifications for Fork Lift(17 ton), Man Lift, FOS (First On Scene), CPR/First-Aid/AED, and Basic Life Support. Some of his training involves Applied Critical Thinking (ACT), Harm reduction training and education, De-Escalation, Conflict-resolution and years of in-the-field experiences/circumstances that are key specific to situations in the event community.
Brooks is an avid outdoorsman, his favorite place to be, is in the woods. He enjoys taking his dogs for walks, exploring locations less traveled, foraging for mushrooms, and learning general flora and fauna knowledge. He listens to and plays a wide variety of music, and instruments. Brooks lives in the western SC, in a cabin that he built himself last year.
— Azul (Pronouns He/Him) has attended counterculture events since 2007 and has been involved in medical care for those communities since 2014. He has 8+ years of experience in EMS. Azul has worked in first aid and safety for a variety of festivals and events, including One Wheel, EDM, Psytrance, Burns, Bluegrass, Flow Art, and more. Azul lives in Kentucky, he enjoys fire spinning, blacksmithing, and homesteading. He can be found hiding in his house and petting his animals. Certifications include EMT-B, BLS, CPR/AED, and First Aid.
—Nate grew up in WNC, roaming, running, and camping deep within the Appalachian mountains.
He worked at the Red Cross, completed an active tour in the army infantry, associate in psychology, and disaster relief in New Orleans after Katrina, is a skilled builder, zip line guide, and crisis intervention specialist at a homeless shelter. All the while, using learned techniques to facilitate the jobs, interactions, and often team-leading positions. To date, he has been facilitating first aid, and security at events for 10 years totaling over 150 official roles as crew, shift lead, trainer, and event lead. He has maintained his Red Cross CPR cert since high school, has been a certified instructor for 7 years, audited two EMS classes, and has years of practical experience and knowledge.
Nate enjoys Rock hounding, hiking, and camping with his two boys and dog in his off time. He is an avid firekeeper, staff spinner, and friend. His objective positivity, creative problem-solving, and calming demeanor have made a difference on many occasions.
—Emily (pronouns: she/they) has been attending and working at Burning Man events since 2015, including seven Big Burns, and more than 15 distinct regional burns.
She has worked as an EMT, including 911 ambulance service in Springfield, Massachusetts, as well as in campus and outdoor settings. Emily is currently first aid and CPR/AED certified. She is a street medic and trainer, providing medical support for activism and protest. She has been a member of the Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT AK-1).
Emily has been in Ranger leadership roles for about a dozen different Burning Man regional events, with extensive experience in de-escalation, collaborative problem-solving, and conflict resolution. At Burning Man she has worked in supervisory roles for Gate, Perimeter Exodus, and the Black Rock City Municipal Airport.
She operates a coaching business specializing in end-of-life decision-making, major life transitions, and conflict transformation.
—Fairey (he/him) Has been working in the event industry for over the past decade. Beginning as a parking staff in 2012, he has since been involved in many aspects of event production including site logistics, parking management, stage production, security, and much more. First entering the Burn community in 2019, he has experienced 7 regional burns and looks forward to continuing to serve the community.
Having been providing event security since 2017, Fairey is an all-around “Jack of All Trades” when it comes to his skill sets. Quick to understand and eager to help make him adaptable to almost any need or situation.
Having been raised in the woods of Edisto Island by a family of timber farmers, Fairey enjoys spending his time in the woods and is an avid gardener. Currently living on a small homestead in western SC, he enjoys exploring the nearby mountains and rivers with his daughter, spending time in his garden, and tending to his livestock.
— Ananda (pronouns: she/her/sir) has 20+ years of experience working festivals in various roles. The types of festivals ranged from music, Pridefest, earth skills, regional burns, fire festivals, movement festivals, and Burning Man.
Ananda has been working as security utilizing de-escalation and harm reduction tactics since 2022. She also brings over 10 years of experience of being a business owner and practitioner in the health and wellness field. Other notable skills that lend themselves to the work are facilitating Vision Quests in the Mojave Desert, organizing festivals, governance & mediation training, research and development of different types of sustainable socio-economic structures.
Ananda currently runs and operates a coaching business that specializes in career transitions and life design, empowering entrepreneurs and healers to bring their gifts to the world and live a fulfilling life.

—Violet (Pronouns Any/All) does not enjoy talking about herself but enjoys helping people be safe, informed, and comfortable. She has attended festivals and events for over 15 years and has worked in first aid, safety, logistics, and gate positions since 2017. Currently, First Aid/CPR certified while working on her Full Wilderness First Responder Certification and De-Escalation Certification.
Violet has worked as a freelance content creator for an online multimedia platform, event photographer, and as a self-taught graphic designer for private customers for over a decade. This has made Violet incredibly detail-oriented, organized, and eager to create a comfortable environment for successful events.
Violet grew up outside of Asheville, NC, and currently resides in the middle of nowhere, KY.
She lives with her partner, 4 cats, and 2 dogs on 100+ acres of wild Kentucky family-owned forest land. When she isn’t battling the wilderness, she enjoys nature photography and creating mixed-media art.
She also built and maintains a large organic pollinator garden, cause she loves those guys.
—Spencer (pronouns he/him) has 15 years of experience working festivals as safety and first aid. From Bluegrass to EDM, Psytrance to One Wheel, keeping them safe. Using de-escalation and respect as the basis for action.
Spencer was a non-commissioned officer in the Army’s psychological operations. After that, he was a wilderness instructor for juvenile delinquents. Ski instructor, rappel master, canoe instructor, raft guide, and swiftwater rescue, are among his skillset. Spencer speaks five languages, including French, Spanish, and Portuguese. He has performed and taught first aid for 30 years.
Current certifications: CPR, First Aid, Swiftwater rescue, HAM radio operator(KO4KSR)
Expired Certifications: Senior Parachute Rigger, combat life saver, Advanced wilderness first aid.
—Liam has spent most of his life in the festival world, working for and contributing to the production of shows and events. With Liam’s experience in various festivals such as Electric Cowboy, Unity Fest, Transformus, Emergence, To the Moon, Dreamtide, Alchemy, Sanctuary Summit, Rhythm Rising, Playthink, etc…Community is very important to him. Logistics and safety are paramount. Creating a safe environment is key to a successful event. Liam’s experience in heading off problems before they arise is an important aspect of his training and years of experience in the business. He is certified as a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and in CPR, First Aid, AED, EpiPen, Narcan, and crowd control. Liam enjoys playing music and exploring the mountains around Asheville, continuing to learn new skills while keeping an open mind to the ever-changing world and people.
—Tara (pronouns She/They ) has been working in Security/ Safety and First Aid for 12 years now.
From Asheville Pride celebrations and LAFF festival to great concerts with Indio Girls and Micheal Fronti.
She has done more than a dozen regional burns over the last decade.
Tara has held an active First Aid, CPR /AED certification over the last 12 years with two of these years with a local Volunteer Fire Department.
She has 4 years of experience in heavy equipment “track hoe/ backhoe/ skid steer/ dump truck under 26,000 lb.

Tara works with a small business carpentry crew currently and is starting ASL classes first of 2024.
She lives to be outdoors and strives to be there for anyone and everyone ‘ physically, emotionally, spiritually, and mentally, on or off duty.
—Chance (he/him) has been deeply involved in the world of medicine, music, and adventure for over 15 years. He started as a snowboard instructor and has since spent time in the Marine Corps, as a white water raft guide, and a 911 paramedic.
Chance has a very personal passion for harm reduction and creating a new standard for medical care in the festival and burn community. He has been attending and working festivals and burns for 6 years, and has become deeply inspired to cultivate an environment in which the community can be as educated and safe as possible. Chance is now a CPR/First Aid/AED instructor and hopes to provide accessible, compassion-based classes to anyone interested.
In his free time, Chance enjoys fire spinning, metalworking, white water rafting, and mountain rescue.
Certifications: CPR/First Aid/AED, BLS, ACLS, Paramedic, Tactical Rope Suspension Technician, Swift water Rescue.
Mary Beth (she/her) has been attending/working festivals and burns since 2017. Her heart lies in providing quality, compassionate medical care to our community with an emphasis on harm reduction. Mary Beth started 10 years ago as an ocean rescue lifeguard in Charleston and eventually made her way to EMT-B, Advanced EMT, and then finally paramedic. She has been working as a 911 Paramedic in WNC for the last 3 years. When she’s not in the ambulance, Mary Beth can typically be found covered in dirt in the garden, running in the woods, or rafting down the French Broad. She enjoys baking bread, pottery, and everything homesteading. Current certifications: NC EMT-Paramedic, first aid/AED, BLS, ALS, PALS, PHTLS, ACLS, AMLS.
